Module files (often shorted to mods) are little files that contain note and sample information which have been created in a tracker. They are sort-of like midi files, except that the sounds are already embedded within them, so you can play them anywhere.
Notable filetypes include .MOD (Amiga trackers like ProTracker, etc), .XM (FastTracker2), .S3M (Scream Tracker), and .IT (Impulse Tracker).
